Holy Sinkhole! Bus Submerged in Deep Sinkhole

A sinkhole caused by a water main break in Oceanside trapped a bus and continues to grow.

City of Oceanside crews are busy pumping water out of a sinkhole on Los Arbolitos Boulevard near Fredricks Avenue.

The sinkhole was approximately 5 feet deep, and 45 by 38 feet wide as of 11:30 a.m. Wednesday. Around 7 a.m., a public bus "became partially submerged," according to a North County Times report.

Kelvin Harris, the city of Oceanside utility supervisor, said the hole won't get much bigger as they continue to pump water to get down to the main break.

"This happens a lot, but it looks more spectacular because of the mess," said Harris, who noted that a nearby trailer park and apartment complex were without water.

Harris said the road will most likely reopen Thursday.
