Four Eagle Scouts Celebrate at Court of Honor

Four scouts from troop 712 in Oceanside, were awarded the rank of Eagle Scout at a Court of Honor held on November 19, 2013. The scouts are; Kevin Dunn, Christian Guiness, Kyler McMahan and Ethan McMahan. All of the scouts attended El Camino High School in Oceanside.

Each scout is required to complete a community service project to receive the Eagle award, which is the highest award given from the Boy Scouts of America. The four scouts from Oceanside completed a variety of different projects for their awards, as follows:

Kevin Dunn’s project was for the Ronald McDonald House of San Diego which is located across the street from Rady Children's Hospital. Kevin designed, and built, with help from his fellow scouts, a complete library with 2 benches. One of the benches in is the lobby. He asked different businesses, friends, and neighbors to donate supplies to the library. Books, magazines, games, VHS, DVD movies and music CD’s were donated. The Ronald McDonald House now has a complete library and shelving unit.

Christian Guiness, planned, budgeted and built five, 6-foot benches for Garrison Elementary in the Oceanside Unified School district.

Kyler McMahan planned, and built an above ground irrigation system for the Ivey Ranch Horse stables.  He held fundraisers to raise the money necessary to build the irrigation system that brings water to each horse stall.

Ethan McMahan made over 300 animal enrichment toys out of recycled clothing and cardboard.  They were then donated to the San Diego Humane Society.
