The Sunshine Brooks Theatre is at 217 North Coast Highway in downtown Oceanside. Following the kick-off, the series continues with discussions led by a local scholar at 6 p.m. on Tuesdays from Oct. 8 – Nov. 12 in the Civic Center Library Community Rooms at 330 North Coast Highway.

On Thursday, the All-Stars are scheduled to perform music from the different genres featured in the series, including blues, gospel, Broadway, jazz, bluegrass, rock n’ roll, mambo and hip-hop, organizers said.

The Oceanside Public Library is one of 50 sites nationwide selected to host “America’s Music: A Film History of Our Popular Music from Blues to Bluegrass to Broadway.” It is one of three locations in the state to host the series and one of two in Southern California. The event is a Tribeca Film Institute project and is presented in collaboration with the American Library Association, Tribeca Flashpoint and the Society for American Music, organizers said.

Oceanside’s presentation was made possible by a grant from the National Endowment for the Humanities, organizers said. The Friends of the Oceanside Public Library and the Oceanside Public Library Foundation matched those funds to add live performances and special guests.

More information will be posted soon at the library’s website or the Facebook page. Guests may also call (760) 435-5600 during library hours.
