Brittany Cobb walked into Swimwear store in Oceanside because she saw it sold the Big Boobie Bikini.
The store, that opened in April, suited her for one main reason, said Cobb.
“I’ve never had a comfortable swimsuit top,” she said.
The Marine spouse wears a size 36D top and with a newborn, she has become especially endowed, she said. Straps on regular suits leave her sore.
“It hurts your neck or your shoulders,” she said. “The plastic always gets undone and cuts me on the side.”
Busty women are also limited in style, said store owner Jeanine Newman-Reynolds, who designs the custom Big Boobie Bikini line.
“They have given up style and cuteness because of their size and they shouldn’t be,” she said. “Why should somebody be stuck in black and brown for the rest of their lives.”
Her suits start at a B cup and go beyond a D cup, she said. Suits are fully lined and are available in colorful summer fabrics. In thinking up the line, Newman-Reynolds and the seamstress she works with studied comfort and style options for all bust types.
“We just became boob experts,” she said.
Some suits feature thicker straps, while others have crisscross straps on the back that offer support without wires. And because each woman’s build is different, women can purchase different sized tops and bottoms, she said.
Shoppers can also find cover-ups, skirts, hats and even pajamas. Newman-Reynolds plans to sell winter clothing later in the year. The store also offers a 15 percent discount for military families.
The shop at 520 N. Coast Highway opened last month. Its website will soon offer options to purchase suits online and will have tips on proper fitting, Newman-Reynolds said. Prices for suits start at $32.
