San Luis Rey Transit Center Opens in Oceanside

A grand opening celebration was scheduled Saturday morning for a $9 million transit center that will serve bus lines in the rapidly growing northeastern section of Oceanside.

The San Luis Rey Transit Center at the corner of Vandegrift Boulevard and North River Road was a project of the North County Transit District and San Diego Association of Governments.

NCTD "Breeze" bus lines 303, 309, 311, 313 and 315 will begin stopping at the center on Sunday, according to the transit agency.

"The 12-bay transit center with covered shelters, seating, restroom facilities and a communications/security building is a vast improvement over the interim facility," said Supervisor Bill Horn, chairman of the agency's Board of Directors. "We are glad to be able to operate this secure and modern facility for the comfort of our passengers, and we are grateful to SANDAG for making it possible."

The opening of the center will involve some route changes for the buses. Information is available online at gonctd.com, or in riders' guides, which are found aboard buses and in NCTD customer service centers.
