Blog: The Internet Wants to Buy Joe Biden a Trans Am

Joe Biden deserves a Pontiac Trans Am, and the Internet is trying to help him out

Joe Biden loved his Trans Am. As soon as it reached about 40 degrees in Scranton, PA, Ole Joe would pull the cover off of his beloved beauty and spend hours detailing her immaculate curves. He'd often be overheard murmuring how sweet his,"Bird" was which was completely opposite to his normally gruff demeanor. It also made certain Senate Foreign Relations Committee meetings very awkward.

Thus begins the page Buy Vice President Biden a TransAm.

The idea- born on news aggregator FARK quickly gained traction once it was proposed in a discussion thread, and a donation page to make it happen was quickly set up.

The story has so far been picked up by auto blog Jalopnik and several other social media sites. As of this writing, less than 12 hours after it was started, the campaign has raised over $4000.

The Internet meme of Joe Biden and his TransAm has its roots in a story that appeared on satirical news site The Onion in 2009. Now, a group of determined online jokers seem determined to make it a reality.

Lest you think that this is a foolish waste of money to give a toy to a politician, the ultimate goal is to auction the car off, with the proceeds going to benefit a number of charities: the Biden Breast Health Initiative, Doctors Without Borders, the Wounded Warrior Project and GLAAD.
