Reminder: Sunday I-5 Traffic May be Slowed by Amphibious Assault Exercise

Drivers may encounter intermittent traffic delays between 6 a.m. and noon near Basilone Road.

By Camp Pendleton Public Affairs

Camp Pendleton units will conduct an amphibious assault Sunday morning as part of Exercise Dawn Blitz 13 at the Green Beach training area near San Onofre State Beach.

As part of the training, 15 Assault Amphibious Vehicles from the 13th Marine Expeditionary Unit will be required to exit the beach by driving along Old Highway 101 and crossing the Basilone Road overpass of Interstate 5 to reach inland training areas. Several hours later, they will return to the beach by following the same route in reverse.

Drivers in the area may encounter intermittent traffic delays between 6 a.m. and noon Sunday.

These transits will involve temporarily blocking portions of Old Highway 101 as well as the north and southbound off-ramps of Interstate 5 at exit 71, Basilone Road.
