• Combat Logistics Regiment 17, 1st Marine Logistics Group's noncommissioned officers took part in a regimental run at Camp Pendleton on Friday.

• Families and friends got a taste of the Marine life Saturday during the Jane Wayne Day event on base. The day is a Marine tradition and one that allows spouses and others to experience a small part of the lives of Marines.

Some got to lift ammunition cans above their heads as part of a combat fitness test demonstration. Live artillery firings were also on display during the day's events.

• About 700 military wives got a chance to pick up free gowns to wear at upcoming Marine birthday balls, the North County Times reports.

The Armed Services YMCA of Camp Pendleton, Assistance League and the nonprofit group Working Wardrobes coordinated the event.

The Los Angeles Times profiles the life of Pendleton Marine Cpl. Michael Dutcher, who was killed Thursday in Afghanistan.

Dutcher had hoped to ride a motorcycle from Camp Pendleton to his home in Asheville, NC, but did not get the chance.

• The Marine Corps is moving more troops to the north in Afghanistan, the general in charge of the region said in an Marine Corps Times interview last week.

Maj. Gen. John Toolan, Regional Command-Southwest and II Marine Expeditionary Force (Forward) commander, told the Times that the 1st Battalion, 6th Marines, from Camp Lejeune, NC, has shifted to northern Helmand.

The 1/6 is part of Regimental Combat Team 8 made up of three battalions, including the 1st Battalion, 5th Marines, out of Pendleton. The unit is scheduled to be relieved later this year by the 3rd Battalion, 7th Marines, from Twentynine Palms, CA, the paper reported.
