Pop the Bubbly: New Year's Eve Guide 2012 for San Diego County

From family-friendly to adults-only—here's the scoop on parties happening near you.

For some, New Years is a time to quietly reflect on the past and usher in the prospects of the coming year—and for others, it’s an excuse to pop the champagne and cut a rug.

No matter how you would like to say farewell to 2012, here are some holiday celebrations happening near you:

NORTH COUNTY

  • This holiday is a time to tie up loose ends, and recharge your battery for the coming year. The Seaside Center for Spiritual Living in Encinitas is ready to help you do just that with its burning bowl ceremony from 7 to 8:30 p.m. During the ceremony everyone will write down the things from their past they wish to let go of—and then toss them into the burning bowl, so they can begin 2013 with a clean slate. No reservations are needed for this free event though donations are welcome.
  • The Sheraton Carlsbad Resort is hosting a party with a throwback theme—way back, to the Roaring 20s. Everyone is encouraged to wear their best getup; so men, think along the lines of Al Capone—and ladies, look to Greta Garbo for inspiration. The family-friendly event will feature buffetsfor adults and kids, a dessert bar, drinks, a DJ and dance floor—and a Kids Party Zone, complete with a gamer room, face painting, and plenty of games and goodies.   • If ‘psychobilly’ is more your speed, plan to have a rockin’ good time at Reverend Horton Heat’s shindig over at the Belly Up. Long Beach’s Tijuana Panthers will open the show, and doors open at 8 p.m. The concert is a 21 and older event, and tickets can be purchased online.

CITY OF SAN DIEGO

  • At the Desi Andaz Bollywood New Year's Eve Party you groove to those oh-so-lively tunes at Marriott La Jolla, which offers one of Southern California's largest dance floors.  The celebration will also feature a world-class Bollywood DJ and kids are welcome at the party. Tickets and room packages can be purchased online.
  • If you’re a foodie at heart, Herringbone is planning a special dinner menu to celebrate its first New Year’s Eve in La Jolla. Chef Amanda Baumgarten (a Top Chef alum) will be whipping up some decadent dishes—and if you’re feeling especially fancy, a full champagne and caviar service will be available that night.
  • The Comedy Palace will keep you rolling straight through midnight with its lineup—and sure, the bubbly makes the jokes that much funnier. The New Years Eve show features five comedians, table service, a full bar, a champagne toast and dancing. Tickets can be purchased online.
  • Head down to the Gaslamp to ring in 2013. Choose from more than 150 night clubs, bars or restaurants. More information is here.

EAST COUNTY

  • La Mesa will host its annual New Year's Eve celebration will be held at the Adult Enrichment Center beginning at 8 p.m. Tickets for the event—which includes plenty of food and dancing—is $22 at the door. 
  • The popular Gingham restaurant is offering a three course dinner for $35. The deal at the La Mesa restaurant also includes champagne. Find more details here.
  • DJ Mo Lyon is making his way to Santee to ring in the new year. The DJ wil show off his tunes at Carlton Oaks beginning at 9 p.m. Tickets are $5.

SOUTH COUNTY

  • The historic Hotel del Coronado will host its annual celebration beginning at 7 p.m. in the Crown Room. A $285 ticket includes dinner, champagne and plenty of ballroom dancing. Find more information here.
  • Head over to the Coronado Public Library for a family-friendly new year's eve celebration. The event will begin at 1 p.m. and will include plenty of games for the youngins.
