Twentynine Palms Marine Killed in Afghanistan

A 1st Marine Division member was killed in Afghanistan Saturday.

A 1st Marine Division member was killed in Afghanistan Saturday.

Lance Cpl. Nickolas Daniels, 25, of Cook, Ill., died of wounds sustained while conducting combat operations in Helmand province, Afghanistan.  He was a combat engineer assigned to 3rd Combat Engineer Battalion, 1st Marine Division, based at Marine Corps Air Ground Combat Center Twentynine Palms, Calif.

Daniels began serving in the Marine Corps, Jan. 4, 2010.  This was his first deployment to Afghanistan.

His personal service awards include the Purple Heart and the National Defense Service Medal.
