Event: Marines to Dedicate Plaque to Vietnam Veterans

The Marines and sailors of 3rd Battalion, 1st Marine Regiment, will honor their Marines and sailors who paid the ultimate price for freedom during the Vietnam War with a plaque dedication on base Thursday.

During the Vietnam War, the battalion operated from Chu Lai, Da Nang, Thang Binh, Hoa Long, Thanh Thuy, Ca Lu Combat Base and Hoa Vang from 1966 to 1971.

There are 654 names of Marines and sailors on the plaque, all gave their lives during the Vietnam conflict.

The battalion participated in battles of every war since the Mexican War to include Guadalcanal, Chosin Reservoir, Fallujah and most recently Safaar, Afghanistan.

Speaking at the ceremony will be Col. Willard Buhl, the commanding officer of Wounded Warrior Regiment, Lt. Col. Bradford Tippett, the commanding officer of 3rd Bn., 1st Marine Regiment, and Vietnam veterans Charles Latting, a retired Marine Corps major, and Jim Lupori, a retired Marine Corps captain.
