Investigation into Fatal Crash in Oceanside Continues

The head-on crash on Oceanside Boulevard killed a woman and injured several other people.

Oceanside police continue to investigate a head-on crash that killed a woman and injured several other people.

The crash in the 4000 block of Oceanside Boulevard occurred about 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, according to Oceanside police Sgt. Gabe Jimenez.

An eastbound Acura Integra crossed the center median and struck a palm tree before entering westbound lanes and striking a Nissan Sentra, Jimenez said in a statement.

A man driving the Acura was thrown out of the vehicle and landed in westbound lanes, Jimenez said, noting he sustained serious injuries and was taken to a trauma center. The man's passenger, a woman, died at the scene, according to the sergeant.

Occupants of the Nissan sustained moderate injuries and were also taken to a trauma center, he said.

"Although the investigating is ongoing, speed could be a contributing factor," Jimenez said. "The name of the deceased is being withheld pending the notification of her next of kin."

Anyone who witnessed the accident was encouraged to call the Oceanside Police Department's Major Accident Investigation Team at (760) 435-4801.

I say speed was a factor too.

Speed was certainly a factor. The driver hit his brakes and the car started skidding from the first lane all the way across the other two before hitting the curb and tree. The speed limit is 55 in that stretch but he was going well above that.

I heard he was DUI too. That makes sense for the speed
