Civilian Shoots, Kills Self at Camp Pendleton Golf Course

Law enforcement officials are investigating a self-inflicted death that occured at 9:30 a.m. at the Marine Memorial Golf Course.

CAMP PENDLETON, CA -- Law enforcement officials are investigating a Monday morning suicide on Camp Pendleton, base public affairs reports.

Police responded to an incident on the Marine Memorial Golf Course at 9:30 a.m. Monday, where a civilian later sustained a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head, according to a base release.

The person was pronounced dead at 10:35 a.m. by base emergency personnel.

It was not immediately clear what might have led to the gunfire.

The Naval Criminal Investigative Service is investigating the incident and the golf course remains closed.

Officials have not release the name or gender of the individual.
