Marines Shown in Photo with Nazi-related Symbol Will not be Punished

The Marine Corps investigated an incident in which 1st Marine Division members were shown near a flag showing the Nazi SS symbol.

The Marine Corps will not discipline members of the 1st Marine Division's 1st Reconnaissance Battalion posing near a flag that shows a Nazi related symbol, the unit released today.

"The incident was found not to be racially motivated," said Master Gunnery Sgt. Mark Oliva of the 1st Marine Expeditionary Force in a release. " Those involved acknowledged that the symbol could be misinterpreted and is not in keeping with our Marine Corps ethos and values."

The picture is believed to have been taken in September 2010.

The Marines were reminded that the behavior will not be tolerated and could result in punishment in the future, according to the release.

The Marines are said to have posed with the "SS" symbol of the Nazi's Schutzstaffel. The two letter acronym also stands for Scout Sniper.

Do you think these Marines should be punished?
