1st Marine Division to Rededicate Battle Streamers

Thursday's ceremony will be broadcast live.

The 1st Marine Division will honor Division Marines who have served in every clime and place during a ceremony to rededicate the unit's battle streamers on base Thursday.

The 1st Marine Division was activated aboard the Battleship Texas in February 1941. It is the oldest, largest, and most decorated division in the United States Marine Corps, with nine Presidential Unit Citations.

Division units have participated in numerous battles in every war since World War II to include Guadalcanal, Chosin Reservoir, the Tet Offensive, Fallujah, and most recently Marjah, Afghanistan.

Aiding in the ceremony will be veterans of former battles from the 1st Marine Division Association.

The mayors of Laguna Hills and San Clemente will also be in attendance.

The ceremony will stream live at this DVIDS link beginning at 7:30, according to a division spokesman.
