Lance Cpl. Donald J. Hogan shielded Marines from a roadside bomb in 2009.

Secretary of the Navy Ray Mabus presented the Navy Cross to the family of a San Clemente Marine killed in Afghanistan in 2009. The Tuesday morning ceremony also marked the opening of barracks named after him.

Lance Cpl. Donald J. Hogan is credited with saving members of his infantry squad on a foot patrol when he alerted fellow Marines of a roadside bomb was about to be activated and hurled himself on top of another Marine.

His parents, Carla and Jim Hogan accepted the award.
