Other facts

The following is from the City of Oceanside web site:

Jack Feller was elected to the Oceanside City Council in November of 2000.

Born in South Dakota, Jack Feller is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Jack Feller, and the oldest of six children. In 1960, the Feller family moved to California where Jack graduated from Costa Mesa High School in Orange County.

Enlisting in the Navy in 1968, he was assigned to the Naval Dental Clinic at Camp Pendleton where he served for six years.

Prior to being elected to City Council, Jack served as a Commissioner on the Oceanside Beach and Harbor Advisory Committee, Integrated Waste Commission and the Hazardous Waste Commission. Active in the community, he was a member of the Mission San Luis Rey Parish Advisory Board, a founding Board Member of Pacific View Charter School, served on the Seagaze Concert Series Steering Committee, and was a longtime member of Harbor Days Committee.

Additional community involvement includes the Jaycees (Jaycee of the Year 1992 and 1999), Rotary (President 1993-1994), Chamber of Commerce (Board of Directors 1996-1999, Volunteer of the Year 1990, Businessperson of the Year 1996), Oceanside Merchants Association, coach and Past President of the Oceanside Bobby Sox Softball League, Ivey Ranch Park, Trauma Intervention Program, Friends of the Library, Brother Benno Foundation, Women's Resource Center, Canine Companions, and the Oceanside Senior Citizens Center, and he actively supports both El Camino and Oceanside High Schools. He is a Board Member for both The Angels Depot and the El Camino Wildcat Foundation.

His knowledge of local government and the community is balanced by his experience as a businessman. He sold his business, Port of Subs, in 2004 after 10½ years, and has been employed in both the public and private sector.

During his eight years on the City Council, many great things have occurred within the City of Oceanside.

  • Following years of frustrated attempts, Councilmember Feller was instrumental in positioning the City for an agreement to be reached that allowed a world class hotel to be built on the bluff above the pier – an eagerly anticipated amenity to tourism in Oceanside.
  • The Wyndham Oceanside Pier Resort and Oceanside Terraces (a multi-use downtown development) have both been welcomed here too.
  • New businesses and upscale homes flourish in the downtown area.
  • The permanent bridge connecting Pacific Street to Oceanside Harbor has been completed.
  • Councilmember Feller has always stood firmly in support of making Oceanside Airport the valuable asset it was meant to be.
  • The circulation element is being addressed and Council is pursuing traffic measures such as extending Melrose Drive and putting an off ramp at RDO Dr & Highway 78 to help with traffic flow.
  • All this, and the Police Chief has announced that crimes are at their lowest levels in over 30 years.

Oceanside clearly is moving in the right direction.

Jack and his wife Bunny have lived in Oceanside since 1987 and have three daughters and sons-in-law and eighteen grandchildren and one great-grandson.
