TGIF: Elevated Surf Forecasted

Strong gusty west winds buffeted the mountains and deserts of San Diego County early Friday.

The National Weather Service issued a wind advisory for mountain and desert areas until noon, reporting sustained west winds of 20 to 30 miles per hour and gusts of up to 50 mph.

The agency also issued a beach hazards statement for coastal areas through this morning.

"Elevated surf and astronomical high tides above 7 feet will create the possibility of minor flooding of low-lying areas along west facing beaches (this morning)," the NWS statement said. "High tides will lower below 7 feet by (Friday afternoon)."
