Well, THIS could certainly put a damper on Kern, Feller & Felien's support of plans byRead More developers to build a toxic landfill directly ON the San Luis Rey River at Gregory Canyon (Gregory Canyon Landfill; http://www.savegregorycanyon.org/) for trash that isn't even from this area of N. County! Scientists and engineers have cautioned that fire, earthquake and deterioration over time of ANY liner (no matter HOW "advanced") will pollute the river and adjacent aquifers (Oceanside's main source of WATER!) Not to mention that evidence was presented to the Army Corps. of Engineers and City Council that this type of landfill isn't even needed anymore due to success of recycling and zero waste programs. The Pala Tribe must be celebrating since they consider this area to be SACRED Native American land. (As one tribal member testified: Would YOU be OK if someone put trash and toxic waste on the steps and pews of the Sistine Chapel, but agreed not to put any on the alter?) Voters must wonder why the proponents of this landfill have already spent in excess of $67 million on a landfill that hasn't even been built yet. Must be expecting HUGE returns on this investment.

This is excellent reporting and glad Patch picked it up! It fully squares with the facts as IRead More understand them, have picked up through anecdotal evidence and observing the brake problems getting worse. Only one citizen who made notice, at least no one was killed on the public conveyance. Mr. Tucker should be correctly investigated in both monetary outlays, personnel overturns and communications -mirrored and leading to the maintenance issues.

We launched an iPhone/iPad app, called It’s Done!, that has become a helpful tool for TBIRead More survivors worldwide. It helps users recall whether routine everyday tasks are done: Did I lock the door? Turn off the stove? Take my medication? It even notifies loved ones/caregivers when tasks are done. We're grateful It's Done! has improved the quality of life for people with short-term memory loss and welcome everyone's feedback: http://itsdoneapp.com.

A Marine gets left in the desert by his immediate supervisor and the Marine dies. The supervisor isRead More relieved, the supervisor’s commander is relieved, the executive officer and Sgt. Maj. is relieved. A maintenance officer and others falsify maintenance records on the still to be completely fielded MV-22 without their commanders knowledge. The Squadron Commander is several and I mean several levels above this and are held accountable because they “should” have known about this. Why does the Corps remove these commanders and others in leadership positions when their subordinates fail in some way dramatic way? It is not about making headlines to show how hard we are on our Officers and SNCOs; It is, just as the Commandant indicated, about accountability. It is about leadership and a failure thereof. Every SNCO, officer and commander whether he or she is a platoon sergeant or commander or even a commanding General knows that serious actions by any of your subordinates can result in an immediate review of your ability to continue to lead and if you are found lacking your career will be immediately and negatively impacted. Is it fair? Maybe not. Is that even a valid question? No. The fact is it must happen that way. Why? Because our Marines and sailors (and their families) MUST always trust and believe that they are being led by the best SNCOs and officers in the world.

The PEOPLE you describe to be animals, are some of the most dedicated, caring, and lovingRead More individuals one would ever meet. Marines, in general, care very much for and look out for one another. They don't typically die in combat for causes or country. They typically die protecting other Marines. Within ANY large organization you will have approximately a 10% margin of people who, for whatever reason make mistakes. Sometimes those mistakes are deadly and the wrong people lose their lives. This is the worst possible outcome, and one which every Commander hopes to avoid. But it still happens. I think before making reckless and perhaps uneducated assumptions about an organization with a very long and distinguished past, you should try understanding it through study. THEN check you COMPASS! Good luck! Semper Fidelis. MYCORPS

The military is NOT the civilian world. Why? Because the rules and laws are different, becauseRead More more is expected of the men and women who serve, because the all live together in a very tight little community together. If you are going to create a rule that says adultery is punishable to the extreme that it is, then you need to be AWARE of all that is going on in the lives of the men and women who serve under you. So you see, he is responsible for far more than a civilian boss. There IS a chain of command. He should have used it to keep himself appraised of what was going on. If there was a weak link in his chain, he should have known about it. If he is not able to handle this position with all that it entails, then he needs to step down. I would also guess that those who decided to remove him have more on him than we know about.

Hey I am writing a paper about military rape and I am so horrified by everything I read. Would itRead More be possible to get your story. And also stay strong and know that civilians like me are so pissed off right now. I'm in law school and this will be my mission.

THE INVISIBLE WAR is a groundbreaking investigative documentary about one of our country's mostRead More shameful and best kept secrets: the epidemic of rape within our US military. Today, a female soldier in Iraq and Afghanistan is more likely to be raped by a fellow soldier than killed by enemy fire with the number of assaults in the last decade alone in the hundreds of thousands. Focusing on the powerfully emotional stories of several young women, the film reveals the systemic cover up of the crimes against them and follows their struggles to rebuild their lives and fight for justice. THE INVISIBLE WAR features hard-hitting interviews with high-ranking military officials and members of Congress that reveal the perfect storm conditions that exist for rape in the military, its history of cover-up, and what can be done to bring about much needed change.
